OREANDA-NEWS. January 13, 2010. Freight turnover via Vostochny Port (East Port) of Primorsky Territory showed in yea-over-year figures a 3% drop, amounted 14 million 585,8 thousand tons. According to the press service of the stevedore, over the recent year the company’s specialized coal complex handled 12 million 277.6 thousand tons of coal, a 5% decline compared to 2008. In 2009 2 million 308,2 thousand tons of various cargoes were transshipped through a production and handling system, a year-over-year 10% rise in freight turnover.

The major component in the turnover of East Port is export coal. In 2009, its share in the total cargo turnover amounted to 96.5% (14 million 81.8 thousand tons).

"We had expected the year-on-year decline in freight turnover,” says Sergei Kushnaryov, the managing director of the company. “The overall throughput decline was due to unfinished modernization of our car-dumper, the coal complex did not work at its full capacity. The universal production and handling system, in turn, surpassed the figures of 2008, turnover at more than 2 million 300 thousand tons of cargoes handled recent year. Though we have had a cutback in overall freight turnover, as well at Russia’s as at foreign ports, I believe that those 14.5 million tons of handled cargoes is quite a good figure for our company," Mr. Kushnaryov said.

Vostochny (East) Port JSC is the largest stevedoring operator in the Russian Far East, which specializes in the transshipment of coal using the conveyor equipment. The port’s structure includes specialized coal complex and a Universal production and handling system, which is engaged in transshipment of general and bulk cargo (such as coal, clinker, coke, iron ore, timber, etc.). The port has capacity to handle metals, pulp, aluminum, chemical, long-sized and heavy cargoes.
