OREANDA-NEWS. January 14, 2010. This was announced by the Deputy Prime Minister, the Minister of Economy of Moldova Valeriu Lazar, noting that at time of approval of the new government of the republic on September 25, 2009, headed by Vladimir Filat, the current debt for the Russian gas amounted to US 59 million. "So we are gradually repaying debt for the Russian gas ", - said Valeriu Lazar.

As the chairman of the Moldovan-Russia joint venture SC Moldovagaz Alexander Gusev has announced before, the debt formed due to non-payment for the gas by the companies of fuel and energy sector of Moldova. Alexander Gusev said that the total debt of the energy sector companies of Moldova to “Moldovagaz "exceeds 1,7 billion leis (about US140 million).

At the same time, about 226 million leis (US 18.4 million) is the debt for the gas consumed in the past heating season 2008-2009. The head of “Moldovagaz "emphasized that debt of the energy companies of Moldova for the Russian gas is one of the main problems in relations with Gazprom. As it was previously reported, the debt of the energy sector companies makes up about 75% of the total debt of the gas consumers of Moldova.

The main reason for the named debt of the thermal power stations of Moldova is the non-payments of the company "Termocom" which is the main heat supplier in Chisinau as well as debts of HEC-1 and HEC-2 and industrial enterprises.
