OREANDA-NEWS. January 19, 2010. Vnukovo International’s end-2009 passenger numbers  are expected to reach 7,7 million, a 2,7 percent improvement over the initially forecast 7,5 million.

Owing to its recently expanded route network and increased flight frequencies on pre-existing routes, Vnukovo International’s throughput of passengers traveling on scheduled services has been displaying consistent growth. The November of 2009 alone saw a total of 457 thousand domestic air travelers welcomed, a 35,4 increase against the same period in 2008. A survey of the Airport’s international schedules at the end of November returned a total of 66 thousand air travelers welcomed, a 33,3 percent improvement of last year’s indicator. The Airport’s passenger figure over this years’ eleven months comprised 7 million 137 thousand.

The passenger growth trend on Vnukovo’s scheduled routes continues even to this day. Over the 25 days of December, the Airport’s passenger throughput on domestic services has grown by 39,2 percent over last year’s same period.

Vnukovo International is one of Russia’s largest air transport hubs with over 130 thousand flights by more than two hundred air carriers, both domestic and foreign, handled here every year. The Airport’s route network and flight geography spans most of Russia’s regions, the CIS countries and other nations, former members of the Union, as well as numerous destinations in Western Europe, Asia, and Africa.
