OREANDA-NEWS. January 20, 2010. Freight One has signed a major contract for the purchase of rolling stock from Promtraktor-Vagon in 2010—2012. Under the agreement, Promtraktor-Vagon will deliver 15,000 gondolas to Freight One: 4,000 in 2010, 5,000 in 2011 and 6,000 in 2012. The order completely covers Promtraktor-Vagon’s manufacturing program for the period. The contract is a continuation of the mutually-profitable relationship that was built between the companies in 2009. Freight One will receive the first delivery of cars under the new contract in February.

"The contract with Promtraktor is an example of effective cooperation with railway car makers," said Alex Taicher, Freight One’s First Deputy General Director. "The plant is making high-quality cars for us with improved performance characteristics (runs of 500,000 kilometers between repairs), and in return is receiving guaranteed sales and clear prospects for further technical and investment development. We expect that in the near future we can build such relationships with other leading Russian manufacturers of rolling stock."

Updating the freight car fleet is a strategic task associated with the creation of Freight One. The company has continued to purchase rolling stock even in the current recessionary environment while fulfilling the social mission of supporting Russia’s railway car makers. Freight One purchased about 8 million units of rolling stock from various manufacturers in 2009, which is almost half of all the rolling stock manufactured in Russia last year. Currently, 10% of the company’s cars are new (purchased in 2008—2009).
