OREANDA-NEWS. January 29, 2010. Results of the last years' work of fish industry of the Republic of Karelia have been summed up. As it was observed, this year hard for economy of the region, perhaps, has appeared to be one of the most successful for Karelian fishermenit. Thus, in 2009 users of water biological resources of Karelia have transfer about 26 million roubles to the budgets of all levels for using objects of water bioresources; 20,8 million roubles was transferred to the budget of the republic that 1.7 times exceeds parameters of the year before last.

Deep-sea fishery was carried out by 29 enterprises and two shipping companies. The general catch on all fishing enterprises has made with 58,300 tons, that is 10,8 thousand tons more than last year (122.7%). Catch quotas for ground fish in the Barents Sea, for mackerel in the economic zone of Faeroe Islands and in conventional area North East Atlantic Fisheries Commission (NEAFC), sea perch in NEAFC, Atlantic herring in the Norwegian economic zone, as well as halibut in the zone of Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization (NAFO) have been implemented completely. Enterprises participating in the Northwest Association of Fishing Enterprises were taking an active part in the implementation of quotas: Karelian Seafoods, Ltd., Aquarius, Ltd., and Virma Fishing Company, Ltd., and Alternativa, Ltd., enterprises of the Union of Fishermen of Karelia.

Last year enterprises of Karelia have completely implemented the Atlantic herring catch quota in the Norwegian economic zone - 12071,7 tons. After a long break fishing enterprises have started the capelin fishery which general catch has made 2287,8 tons. On the scientific quota there has been caught 530 tons of ground fish.

Seven enterprises and 37 sole traders were carrying out fishery in the White Sea, catch of water bioresources has made 487,3 tons, that is 49,7 tons more than the level of the last year. The volume of catch of herring has doubled and has made 103,6 tons.

Also the enterprises of fish industry of Karelia have successfully accomlished laying-in of seawee having stocked 167,3 tons of laminaria and 111,9 tons of fukus. Total amount of stocked seaweed this year has grown by 88 tons or by 46% in comparison with 2008.

Enterprises which are carrying out fishery in fresh-water reservoirs of the republic have worked less impressive though with profit, too. Catch of fish according to the industrial quota in fresh-water reservoirs has made 2644,0 tons, that is 6% more than the level of the year before last.

Average number of employees of fish industry of the republic makes 3,1 thousand people. The average monthly nominal gross wage of workers of fish industry complex for for period from January to September, 2009 has made 28,873 roubles.
