OREANDA-NEWS. February 01, 2010. Moscow Domodedovo Airport has become the first in Russia to deploy a multilateration surface surveillance solution.

In 2010 as part of the runway upgrade project a multilateration surface surveillance solution by Era Corporation (Czech Republic) will be deployed in Moscow Domodedovo Airport.

Installation of the multilateration system and its integration to the already existing Advanced Surface Movement Guidance and Control System (A-SMGCS) considered as the best way to control surface movement. Joint features of both systems provide a tower controller with enhanced accuracy and completeness of data related to location of aircraft and vehicles on runways, taxi ways and aprons.

The new system will include multilateration sensors deployed in the aerodrome, stations for central data processing and 150 vehicle transmitters.

Deployment of the multilateration surface surveillance solution will:

enhance accuracy of data on aircraft and vehicles location in the aerodrome thus providing reliable surface control;

increase safety level in all weather conditions in any part of the airfield;

pave the way for further implementation of advance technologies facilitating punctuality of flights, capacity increase and finally safety provision.
