OREANDA-NEWS. February 03, 2010. Independent research company ICT-Marketing, specializing on telecommunication and IT researches, held annual research of Internet audience. By results of the research can be stated that at the end of 2009 number of Internet users in Kazakhstan composes 3,16 millions or 19,8% of Kazakhstan population. 8 of 10 households with Internet connect to Megaline, the global network.

Date of questionnaires of municipal and rural population of Republic of Kazakhstan has been used for calculation. In general from December 2008 to December 2009 Internet audience grew more 30%. At that share of children audience (under 16) composes 12% of total Internet audience.

Main way of Internet use– computer or notebook. Share of those, who use Internet from mobiles is not large and composes 7% of adults (16 years and elder) Internet users, residing in RK cities with population 70 thousand and more people Audience of people using Internet from mobile and computer /notebook are gradually cross: 7 of 10 people, using mobile Internet from mobile, also use Internet from computer /notebook, that shall be considered when defining real Internet audience size in Kazakhstan.

In 2009 the growth of Internet intensively continues.

Daily Internet users, who from Internet audience center compose 42% of adult Internet users in the cities with population of 70 thousand and more people. In the end of 2008 share of daily Internet users composed 32%.

Active audience of Internet users (use Internet resources min once a week) in November 2009 in the cities of RK with 70 thousand and more people composed 79% of adult Internet users. In the end of 2008 share of active audience composed 68% of all adult Internet users.

In the end of 2009 92% of adult Internet users from RK cities with population of 70 thousand and more people referred to regular Internet audience (using Internet at least once a month). In the end of 2008 the same index composed 84%.

Home is the main place of Internet use. If 56% adult Internet users residing in RK cities with population of 70 thousand and more people the most frequently used Internet at home in October 2008, at the end of 2009 this index composed 61%. Share of adult Internet users, using Internet at work place reduced from 17% in October 2008 to 14% in November 2009.

Level of household computerization is an important factor, influencing on Internet development in Kazakhstan. Level of household computerization for the ast year also has grew. If 42% of families of RK cities with population of 70 thousand and more people had computers in October 2008, in November 2009 this index composed 47%. Growth of families who have notebooks continues to grow. If 4% of households in RK cities with population of 70 thousand and more people had notebooks in October 2008, in November 2009 this index composed 7%.

Share of families having computers and share of households with Internet connection increased for the last year. 26 of 100 households of RK cities with population of 70 thousand and more people had Internet connection in November 2009 (in October 2008 this index composed 19 of 100 households). Total number of with Internet connection in RK cities with population of 70 thousand and more people increased more than 30% last year.

For the last year positions of broadband Internet access have been consolidated for people. As compared with 2007 the picture of Internet market has completely changed. If about 70% of municipal households with Internet connected through dial-up modem in September 2007, less 20% of households used this method two years after. Main way of Internet access became broadband high speed Internet. In November 2009, 8 of 10 households with Internet connect to Internet through broadband Internet, particularly Megaline of Kazakhtelecom JSC.

Development of broadband Internet allows wide Internet use. In November 2009 in average one family, residing in city with population of 70 thousand and more people, and having World Network connection, 2,4 people in a family  used Internet services (in October 2008 this index composed 2 people).

Thus, in spite of the crises, Internet market continues to dynamically develop, that is expressed in Internet audience grow, share of computerized and Internet households.
