OREANDA-NEWS. February 11, 2010. The Ust-Kamenogorsk titanium and magnesium plant has received the first prototype of the new production. The titanium in bars is the next stage of the development of the local metallurgy.

Bagdat Shayakhmetov, director, Ust-Kamenogorsk Titanium and Magnesium Plant:

- The address of the president is very congenial to us and especially the issue, connected with the development of mining and smelting complex. Today, the titanium and magnesium plant occupies 14% of the world market. 20% of production is used in the airspace area.

The decision about the modernization was very difficult. At first, it was necessary to measure financial capacities. There were also some difficulties with ore. The plant used to receive raw material from Russia and Ukraine but in the end of 1990s Kazakhstan witnessed the opening of the Ust-Kamenogorsk mine. The development of the project started in 2008. The mine received a name “Plavka” and was included into “30 corporate leaders” state programme.

Altai Klimov, workshop technologist, Ust-Kamenogorsk Titanium and Magnesium Plant:

- We have commissioned the ore-thermal complex on the production of titanium slag. We also introduced international ecological standards of quality. This project is aimed at the manufacturing of production with higher added value.

Titanium is the metal of the future and those, who master the technology of its production is always in demand. This year will be preparatory, since the new production should be studied and tested. In 2011 the Ust-Kamenogorsk titanium and magnesium plant will begin the assembly of third redistribution.
