OREANDA-NEWS. February 17, 2010. Belarusian food concern Belgospischeprom suggests lifting the ban on sale of beer at public transport stops, the head of the beer sector of the concern, Yevgeny Maryushich said during a roundtable.

Sales of Belarusian beer fell 9% on the year in 2009. Maryushich said referring to analysts that one of the main reasons behind lower sales of Belarusian beer was the ban on sales in smaller POS.

The concern believes sales of domestically-brewed beer would rise 15% if the ban on sale at transport stops is lifted.

In 2009, 2,000 POS stopped selling beer in Minsk Region.

Last year, alcohol and beer consumption per capita decreased 2.9% on the year to 11.97 liters, beer accounting for 14%.
