OREANDA-NEWS. February 24, 2010. The sides intend to concert efforts and resources to facilitate economy diversification in Kazakhstan through industrial and infrastructure projects.

Astana hosted signing of an MoU to facilitate economy diversification; the document was signed by Aset Essekeshev, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Industry and Trade; Kairat Kelimbetov, Chairman of the Samruk-Kazyna National Welfare Fund; and Olivier Descamps, EBRD Business Group Director, South Eastern Europe, Central Asia and the Caucasus.

The sides intend to concert efforts and resources to facilitate economy diversification in Kazakhstan through industrial and infrastructure projects.

In the years to come EBRD plans to finance through debt financing and equity participation some Kazakhstan’s projects worth USD 1 billion.

The sides agreed to closely cooperate to prepare and implement economically viable projects to facilitate development of non-extraction sectors of the Kazakhstan’s economy.

Samruk-Kazyna National Welfare Fund has accumulated a positive experience of cooperation with EBRD when implementing such strategically important projects as the first stage of modernization of the National power grid and construction of the 2nd North-South transit power line. Besides, the parties have established Kazakhstan Growth Fund - a joint direct investment fund – to implement non-extraction projects.
