OREANDA-NEWS. February 26, 2010. Kazakhtelecom (Astana), securities of which are listing on Kazakhstan Stock Exchange (KASE), provided KASE with a press release, reported the press-centre of KASE:

Thanks to Kazakhtelecom's active work on implementation of infrastructure projects and new technologies in 2009 telephony density reached 23.15 phone numbers per one hundred residents with 3,627,192 fixed lines.

As on January 1, 2010 local telecommunications network of Kazakhtelecom comprised 4,961 switch sites with 1,997 on city lines and 2,964 on rural lines, including 1,300 subscriber access blocks. In 2009 the company had 583 switch sites more.

City lines exploit 1,945 or 97.4% digital switching points, rural lines - 1,994 or 67.3% accordingly. After analog exchanges had been replaced with digital exchanges the number of digital switching points increased by 844, including 397 on city lines, and 447 rural lines.

On average 90.74 % of communications are digital, 91.52 % city lines and 88.56 % on rural lines.

During the reporting period Kazakhtelecom continued to use vacant phone numbers. In 2009 381,033 phones were installed of which 210,948 on city networks, and on rural networks - 170,085. The company saw on January 1, 2010 3,627,192 fixed lines, including - 2,650,197 on city lines, 976,995 on rural lines with 294,074 surpluses: 150,840 on city lines, and 143,234 rural lines.

Phone density for 100 residents reached 23.15 numbers, including city lines - 31.78 numbers, and 13.33 numbers in rural area.
