OREANDA-NEWS. March 24, 2010. The first experimental shipment of "meal feed" in the four specialized containers were sent from the Shipovka station to Baltijsk for subsequent loading onto Baltiysk rail ferry to deliver to the port of Ust-Luga, the Kaliningrad Railroad (KZD) press service said.

The containers will be shipped further by rail to the container terminal of TransContainer OJSC at Kuntsevo-2 station, and then hauled by trucks to the consignee’s door.

Producer and shipper of the cargo is one of the largest companies of Kaliningrad region, Sodrugestvo-Soya of Sodrugestvo Group of companies. TransContainer provided its rolling stock to transport the consignment.

The supply chain logistic scheme including Baltiysk Ust-Luga rail-ferry line will allow shippers and consignees to save at least 20-25% on transportation costs due to economical tariff rates.

Transcontainer intends to carry freight in special containers on a regular basis.

Ust-Luga - Baltiisk - ports of Germany ferry line - is a federal project, one of the links in the "East-West" transportation chain. Two ferry terminals, rail and road, are intended for reception and handling of Ro-Ro ships, rail, road and road / rail ferries serving the line of Ust-Luga - Baltiisk and Ust-Luga - ports of Germany, a foreign traffic line.
