OREANDA-NEWS. March 26, 2010. Zvezda (Star) OJSC in St. Petersburg has delivered the next reverse gear transmission, RRD12000, for Boikiy, the third multi-purpose patrol ship of Project 20380, the Zvezda press release said.
The building ship will have two such reverse gears, each combining two diesel engines manufactured by Kolomna Factory OJSC (Moscow region). The engines may operate jointly or independently on one propeller.

The uniqueness of the two-speed reverse gear transmission RRD12000, developed and manufactured by specialists of Zvezda enterprise, is a huge transmitted power, 12000 h.p. It weighs about 25 tons, some two meters height. This gear is high-tech engineering product, worth of tens of millions of rubles.
Zvezda is the only enterprise in Russia, which has been able to design and arrange the production of such gear in cooperation with other Russian manufacturers.

Today Zvezda is the leading Russian company, developer and manufacturer of marine high power transmissions, a promising RRD12000 series. Currently, there are two more projects being developed, the powerful marine transmissions for the new Navy ships.

In 2010, the company plans to manufacture another two RRD12000 transmissions for the fourth frigate of project 20380.

Project 20380 patrol ships are being built by Severnaya Verf Shipbuilding Plant (St. Petersburg) designed by Almaz Central Maritime Design Bureau (St. Petersburg). They are intended for patrol in coastal waters, escort and antisubmarine operations.
