OREANDA-NEWS. March 29, 2010. M2M Telematica group acted as technical partner to maintain application of navigation systems GLONASS and GPS during the elections. The project was initiated by the Russian Election Committee, together with Russian Federal Space Agency.

During the election in Ryazan region on March 14, M2M and its regional partner equipped bulletin/protocol transport vehicles with GLONASS/GPS telematics terminals.  Due to the systems, participants of the election process got the opportunity to track the vehicles, which were carrying important documents, with high accuracy.

Dispatcher centers in the Central Election Committee in Moscow and regional centers in Ryazan demonstrated motion of each vehicle in real time with the rate of 5 sec. CyberFleet® SW helped to monitor following the predefined routes by the drivers.

M2M regional partners also assisted the elections in Vologda and Omsk regions on March 14.

For M2M Telematica, it is not the first time the company supports election process. GLONASS-based systems were used in Irkutsk region on Oct. 12, 2009, to watch transportation of bulletins and protocols from Kuznetsovka village to the territorial election committee in Bratsk.

To remind, application of the GLONASS technologies for election process was initiated in Dec. 2009, by the agreement signed between Russian Federal Space Agency and Russian Central Election Committee. The agreement was aimed at improving the election processes through application of the space navigation and communication technologies, including monitoring of the bulletin transportation/delivery. Vladimir Churov, Chairman of the Central Election Committee, highly evaluated pilot GLONASS-based projects. He stated that GLONASS/GPS helped to create an additional level of security and transparency for the election process.
