OREANDA-NEWS. March 29, 2010. Belarus has set up a special company to sell sugar in Ukraine, said the Deputy Chairman of Belgospischeprom concern Nikolai Antikhevich during a conference in Kiev.

“We created Belarusian Agrarian Company to supply sugar to Ukraine,” he said. The company was founded by the four Belarusian sugar refineries and has already been registered in Ukraine.

Belarus had agreed to supply only beet sugar to Ukraine, however, volumes of supplies were not specified.

In 2009, Belarus exported 77,900 tonnes of sugar to Ukraine.

Ukraine produced 1.267 million tonnes of sugar from the 2009 beet harvest.

The capacity of the Ukrainian market is estimated at 2-2.2 million tonnes of sugar annually.
