OREANDA-NEWS. April 07, 2010. The Indo-Russian joint venture KAMAZ VECTRA MOTORS LIMITED officially launched the assembling of KAMAZ vehicles.

Rustam Minnikhanov, President of the Republic of Tatarstan, Sergey Kogoghin, Director General of OJSC KAMAZ and R.K. Rishi, Chairman, Vectra Group participated in the solemn ceremony.

According to Rustam Minnikhanov, the governing body of the Republic of Tatarstan supports this project completely. “I hope,” noted President of the RT, “that such areas of cooperation between Tatarstan and Indian companies will be more.”

“I think that we chose the right line of business development having organized the KAMAZ assembly in Hosur,” Director General of OJSC KAMAZ said in his turn. “Our partners and we highly appreciate the potential of our joint business development and believe that we are able to score a considerable success when energetically and efficiently developing and producing new, called-for models.” In conclusion Sergey Kogoghin expressed his hope that before long the new JV would become the best and most successful enterprise producing KAMAZ trucks outside Russia.

The first assembling of KAMAZ vehicles in India is located in Hosur, near Bangalore (India). The joint venture was set up on the production basis of India’s Vectra Group, the partner of OJSC KAMAZ. In March 2009, the partners signed the memorandum of understanding and for the creation of the KAMAZ VECTRA MOTORS LIMITED JV, with a capacity of 5,000 vehicles per year.

In the initial stage of the JV, it is planned to assemble several models of vehicles equipped with side platforms and construction dumpers based on the KAMAZ-6540 chassis with right-hand steering wheels, as well as the production of KAMAZ-5460 long-haul tractors.
