OREANDA-NEWS. April 08, 2010. A batch of pulp weighing about 1,500 tons has been delivered to China in Freight One cars under a contract between Freight One and Fintrans. The cargo was shipped through Zabaikalsk Station to Manchuria.

Over 6,000 tons of pulp are to be hauled to China by the end of March, a figure that is expected to increase. A total of 12,000 tons of it will be loaded for export in April.

"For Freight One’s Irkutsk branch and our office in Zabaikalsk this shipment is unique for many reasons" said Branch Director Valery Yakhimovich. "First, transferring from broad-gauge cars to narrow-gauge ones is something new that we are doing in Zabaikalsk. Second, on the way back from China, we will work according to a special logistical scheme that prevents empty runs".

Cars being hauled from China will be filled with consumer goods at the Zabaikalsk transfer terminal. All the imported goods are intended for the domestic market and the CIS countries.
