OREANDA-NEWS. April 08, 2010. The Intergovernmental Turkmen-Armenian Commission for economic cooperation held the second meeting in the capital of the Republic of Armenia, Yerevan.

On the instructions of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov a representative delegation led by Co-Chairman of the Intergovernmental Commission, Vice Premier H. Saparlyev had arrived in Yerevan to participate in the meeting. The Commission was co-chaired by Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Armenia A. Movsisian.

A wide range of the issues related to the whole spectrum of bilateral cooperation were put on the agenda of the meeting.

In a businesslike and constructive atmosphere the sides stated that the Turkmen-Armenian relations were characterized by the positive dynamics of partnership in all fields at the current stage. Confirming the mutual interest in enhancing fruitful contacts, the Commission members discussed the concrete steps to diversify cooperation which had the profound potential.

The reports on the implementation of the decisions taken at the first meeting, which had been conducted in February 2009 in Ashgabat, were presented at the meeting. The Commission members evaluated positively the activities aimed at implementing the agreements to foster Turkmen-Armenian cooperation. Underscoring the need to strengthen the legal foundation of cooperation, the sides emphasized that the bilateral documents between Turkmenistan and Armenia had laid the reliable foundation for the fruitful dialogue. The trade and economy, energy sector, chemical, transport and communications, agricultural sector were identified as the priority fields of intergovernmental partnership.

A focus of discussion was further intensification of humanitarian relations, particularly in the sphere of education, science and health care. The participants called for enhancing and expanding cultural contacts as an important component of Turkmen-Armenian relations through conducting art forums and days of culture.

In conclusion the Commission members expressed belief that the talks in Yerevan would promote traditionally friendly cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Armenia.
