OREANDA-NEWS. April 08, 2010. Freight One and Armavir Heavy Machinery Plant OJSC have signed a contract for the delivery 370 boxcars in the second quarter of 2010. The first batch of 120 cars will be delivered to Freight One in April, and the rest in May-June.

The main feature of the boxcars is increased capacity. The 11-1807-01 model carries up to 158 cubic meters of cargo, compared with the basic model, which carries 138 cubic meters. The company considers it a priority to use freight cars in a cost-effective manner, and higher capacity is an important factor in this. Adding such cars to the company’s fleet will significantly enhance the company’s competitiveness in freight transport.

Freight One considers it a strategic objective to update its freight car fleet. In 2009 the company acquired about 8,000 units of rolling stock from Russian railway car makers. In 2010 the company plans to buy at least 15,000 cars of different types out of its cash reserves. The company has already signed contracts with Uralvagonzavod OJSC and Promtractor Wagon CJSC for the purchase of gondola cars, and with Ruzhimmash OJSC for the purchase of gondola cars and tanks.
