OREANDA-NEWS. April 15, 2010. The Federal Antimonopoly Services (FAS Russia) and the Federal Service for Intellectual Property, Patents and Trademarks (Rospatent) signed a Cooperation Agreement. The Ceremony took place at Rospatent. The Agreement was signed by the Head of Rospatent, Mr. Simonov, and the Head of FAS Russia, Mr. Artemyev, reported the press-centre of FAS Russia.

Speaking at the ceremony, Boris Simonov emphasized the importance of the Agreement, in the period of modernization of the national economy and transition to innovative course of development.

The Head of Rospatent pointed out that patent monopoly is the only monopoly that FAS Russia recognizes.

"The very nature of intellectual property generates such competitive environment, where monopoly is created only through intellectual property", said Boris Simonov.

The Agreement lays down general principles for interaction between FAS Russia, its regional offices and Rospatent operating within their scope of reference. It provides for mutual cooperation and organization of joint events in order to more efficiently achieve the tasks, assigned to of FAS Russia and Rospatent in accordance with the normative legal acts of the Russian Federation.

"Development of innovating economy is impossible without protecting intellectual property rights. FAS Russia and Rospatent have been long working together on this issue. Today's Agreement will raise our cooperation to a new level", said the Head of FAS Russia Igor Artemyev.

The Head of FAS Russia asked the colleagues from Rospatnet to take part in development amendments to the antimonopoly law regarding protection of intellectual property rights.
