OREANDA-NEWS. April 20, 2010. As it was informed in the press service of the government, this was announced by the MoldIteraElectric director Andrei Sangheli during the visit of the Prime Minister Vladimir Filat to the place of upcoming construction of the plant.

Andrei Sangheli noted that the plant will be built on the area of 44 ha. Construction of the facility is scheduled to complete till 2012. The head of MoldIteraElectric noted that a similar plant is already working in Skopje (Macedonia) and two more will be built in Romania and Germany. The example of Skopje station shows that such stations comply with all environmental regulations. According to him, the capacity of electricity station in Burlaceni will be two times higher than in Macedonia.

The Prime Minister of Moldova underlined that diversification of energy sources is one of the main objectives of the government. Capacity of electricity station in Burlaceni and total investment in its construction was not specified. In 2005, it was reported that the investment project on construction of HEC capacity of 450 MW near Burlaceni, Cahul region of Moldova, is implemented by the company Mold Itera Energy.

It was also mentioned that, according to preliminary estimates of the “Itera" experts, the total investment in the construction of the facility amounts to USD280 million. It was planned that the station constructed by "Itera" in Moldova, will supply electricity not only to the domestic market of the republic, but also to the Balkan region countries.

It was mentioned that commissioning of the named HEC will double the country’s electricity stocks - from 35% up to 70%. Earlier the Government of Moldova suggested to SC Gazprom to participate in implementation of the investment projects on the construction of HEC near Burlaceni. The sources in the cabinet of republic said that company Itera, which is engaged in implementing the project, is ready to give a controlling stake in the project in exchange for the natural gas supplies at affordable prices.

This would allow getting cheaper electricity for sale at the domestic market of Moldova and organization of its exports to the Balkan countries. It was planned that HEC in Burlaceni could be built by 2008.
