OREANDA-NEWS. April 22, 2010. In the first quater of 2010 catch of fish by enterprises of fishing industry of Karelia has made 15121.3 tons, that makes 116.8% to the corresponding period of the previous year.

Thus, in the Barents Sea in 2010 fisheries enterprises of the Republic of Karelia for their industrial and off-shore fishing in the Barents Sea were allowed cod and haddock catch quotas in the volume of 41909.5 tons, as well as 4676.1 tons of capelin, 8.26 tons of giant scallop, 65.65 tons of crab. In the first quater of the current year the catch of cod and haddock has made 7629.4 tons, total catch of bottom-dwelling fish along with incidental catch has made 8495.8 tons. Leading enterprises are Virma Fish Factory, Ltd., Kuzema, Ltd., Baza Tralovogo Flota (Trawling Fleet Factory), Ltd. In the three months of the current year the quota has been taken up by 91.4%.

At the White Sea extraction of aquatic bioresources has made 153.3 tons – 22.4 tons of herring, and 130.9 tons of navaga, that almost two times exceeds the catch volumes of the 1 quarter of 2009.

The catch progress is also impressive in the zones of foreign countries and in the convention areas. For 2010 fisheries enterprises of the Republic of Karelia are allowed the following quotas: 402.8 tons of mackerel and 1410.3 tons of blue whiting in the Faeroe economic zone, 11558.9 tons of herring and 721.4 tons tons of blue whiting in the Norwegian economic zone, 1483.8 tons of rockfish and 726.1 tons of blue whiting in the in the convention area of the North East Atlantic Fisheries Commission, 113.1 tons of halibut in the convention area of the Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization.

According to the results of the 1 quarter of 2010 in Norwegian economic zone total catch of herring by enterprises of Unifish, Ltd., Karelryba, Ltd., Virma Fish Factory, Ltd., has made 2165.5 tons.

Total volume of extraction of aquatic bioresources in the ocean of the Republic of Karelia as of April 1, 2009 has made 14951.9 tons, that is 2100.8 tons more than the corresponding activities of 2009.

Production of commodity food fish output grows, within the period from January to March 2010 it has made13681.2 tons, that exceeds the level of 2009 by 1835.5 tons or by 15.5%. The following organizations have increased their production: Virma, Ltd., Karelskie Moreprodukty (Karelian Seafood), Inc., Virma Fish Factory, Ltd., Karelryba, Ltd., fishing collective farms Belomor and Zarya Severa (Nordic Dawn).

Compared to the corresponding period of 2009 the following productions have grown considerably: fresh and chilled fish – 1.2 times, herring of all processing types – 1.8 times.

In terms of money the volume of shipped own-produced goods, performed work and services of own production excluding VAT, excises and other charges on the fishery economic activity category in the first quater of 2010 has made 450.3 million roubles, that by 73.4 million roubles exceeds the level of the previous year.
