OREANDA-NEWS. April 22, 2010. To prepare for the upcoming Olympics of 2014, Sochi begins introduction of the intellectual transport monitoring system which uses GLONASS/GPS capabilities.

The Olympics carriers shall have GLONASS/GPS installed on their vehicles, to be followed by voluntary accreditation in the Olympics Transport Directorate. The equipment is to be installed on all transport vehicles by May 1.

GLONASS/GPS  will help to arrange and monitor cargo transfer during pre-Olympics and Olympics in Sochi in 2014. United inter-server exchange is to be maintained by Federal satellite navigation operators in order for the signals to be acquired in the dispatcher center of the Transport Directorate.

Totally, it is planned by deliver about 54 mln t of cargo to the Olympics’ objects. The obsolete transport control system of Sochi is not able to cope with such traffic, experts say.
