OREANDA-NEWS. April 27, 2010. The Finnish Competition Authority and FAS Russia held a joint seminar for Finnish companies that have commercial operations in the Russian Federation. The seminar was organized as part of the Cooperation Programme between the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS Russia) and the Competition Authority of the Republic of Finland for 2010-2011, reported the press-centre of FAS Russia.

At the seminar FAS Russia was represented by the Head of the Antimonopoly Service Igor Artemyev and Deputy Head of the Department for International Economic Cooperation Andrey Yunak.

Participants heard the speech of Mr Artemyev about the main areas of the FAS Russia's activity. In particular, he covered the issues of suppressing abuse of market dominance, cartels, control over mergers and acquisitions, constraining anticompetitive actions of the authorities, enforcement of the antimonopoly norms incorporated in the sectoral legislation (the Land Code, Housing Code, Water Code, Forestry Code, the Laws on Natural Resources and Trading), etc.

Special attention was given to preventing unfair competition, control over offering investments in economic entities of strategic importance for Russian national defence and state security, enforcement of the law on state procurement as well as implementing the norms of the new law on trading.

Mr Artemyev's speech caused a lively discussion of the raised issues. Participants of the seminar pointed out the importance of such seminars, where commercial organizations are given an opportunity to discuss specific pieces of legislation with representatives of executive bodies.
