OREANDA-NEWS. May 05, 2010. Cargo turnover at the port of Arkhangelsk in January-April 2010 fell 25.8% as compared with the same period in 2009 to 831,500 tons. The first-quarter drop was primarily due to a 60.6-percent slump (250,100 tons) in shortsea traffics. In particular, the volume of crude oil shipment tumbled by 82%, to 74,700 tons, general cargoes home trade reduced to 128,500 tons, down 20.7% from Jan-Apr, 2009.

The four months statistics show a 5.7-percent gain in inbound cargoes, to 158,400 tons.

The volume of exported cargoes rose by 26.2%, to 423,000 tons, in particular, timber cargo - by 14.1%, to 154,800 tons, of oil products - by 3.3% to 132,200 tons. In addition, the Port handled 98,300 tons of coal.

In April, freight traffic volumes shrank by 39.4% to 245,200 tons from April, 2009.

Arkhangelsk, a year-round navigable seaport, is located in the delta of the Northern Dvina River flowing into the White Sea. The Northern Sea Route freight traffic passes through the port’s terminals. The total capacity of Arkhangelsk port allows handling up to 4.5 million tons of cargo a year. Last year’s throughput of the port of Arkhangelsk shrank by 30.58%, to 3.271.600 tons.
