OREANDA-NEWS. May 7, 2010. SCM presented its Sustainability Report 2008-2009 at an international CSR conference organized by Ekspert magazine on 28 April 2010 in Kiev. This is the second report of the company prepared in compliance with the international standards of non-financial reporting.

"In terms of the economic climate in Ukraine and the world, the period covered by the report was challenging. The rapid economic growth caused by the high demand for raw materials, steel and energy in the first half of 2008, quickly gave way to a no less rapid economic decline. In these challenging macroeconomic circumstances the investment plans had to be adapted to meet the harsh economic realities. However, even in the most difficult times, we remained committed to responsible business and continued to make long-term investment and report about our performance", said Jock Mendoza-Wilson, SCM's Director of International and Investor Relations, who managed the reporting process, at the presentation.

The Sustainability Report 2008-2009 features information about our mining and metals, energy and finance operations. Also, for the first time the report covers our telecommunications, media and real estate businesses.

The second SCM’s report on sustainable development will traditionally outline approaches of the company to implementation of the following strategic areas of corporate responsibility:

·          Health and safety

·          Environment

·          Employment

·          Society

It also gives more details on:

·          Tackling Climate Change

·          energy efficiency

The choice of the Ekspert's platform for the presentation was not accidental. SCM is an institutional partner of the magazine for its annual international CSR conference. The company has been supporting the conference for the fourth time and plans to continue in future.

Jock Mendoza-Wilson made a report “Consistency, partnership and sustainable development” at the conference, while SCM’s CSR manager Alexandra Zayarnaya spoke in the discussion panel “Social reporting as a way to establish dialog and win trust”.
