OREANDA-NEWS. May 7, 2010. The new UNDP cooperation program for Belarus, which is being reviewed in the UN headquarters, will promote improvements in the business and investment climate of the country, UNDP Project Coordinator in Belarus Ludmila Istomina told Prime-Tass.

In the economic development and social security area, the UNDP assistance will aim at increasing the potential of the government in forming and implementing the social policy of “equal possibilities”, advancing pension system reform and streamlining the system of compensations.

The program will also assist Belarus in promoting Public Private Partnership, Istomina said.

The new program also envisages involvement of the population in entrepreneurial activity in Belarusian regions.

UNDP assistance will also facilitate improvements in Belarus’ business and investment climate and methods to support small business.

Istomina went on to say that UNDP would facilitate enhancement of social security measures in smaller settlements, including through innovation in the work of job centers and social security services.

The new program also envisages continued cooperation with local business promotion centers and business incubators.

A separate line of cooperation will aim at facilitating business development – it is planned to develop not only existing business promotion centers and incubators, but also to establish new infrastructure facilities, including industrial parks, specialized incubators, etc.

The program has been approved by all relevant Belarusian authorities, Istomina said.

“In 2011, we commence a new 5-year country cycle. The new program of cooperation between UNDP and the Belarusian government outlines all our plans for years to come,” she said.
