OREANDA-NEWS. May 18, 2010. During the first 4 months of 2010, Freight One saw its haulage increase over with the same period of last year by 40% to 90.3 million metric tons.

This figure includes 29.9 million tons of coal (+52.5%), 25.5 million tons of oil (+20.8%), 7.7 million tons of ore (+57.1%), 5.9 million tons of ferrous metals (+ 181.0%), 2.9 million tons of timber (+20.8%), 4.1 million tons of construction freight (-12.8%), 2.1 million tons of chemical and mineral fertilizers (+31.2%) and 3.2 million tons of cement (+39.1%).

A revival on the ferrous metals market in the first four months of 2010 resulted in an increase in the haulage of ferrous metals, which boosted Freight One’s results.

With the coming of spring, a positive trend was observed in the cement haulage segment. In April, cement haulage on the whole network increased over the March figure by 24.0% compared with 30% for Freight One. This shows that, taking into account the usual seasonal factor, the industry is reviving after the crisis.

The 52% increase in the haulage of coal was due to increased coal production in January-April 2010 to near the pre-crisis level.

During the period, Freight One accounted for 21.5% of the traffic on the Russian Railways network (+4.5 percentage points over the same period of the last year).
