OREANDA-NEWS. May 19, 2010. The National Power Generating Company Ukrenergo could not hold the auction for access to interstate electricity capacities of Ukraine to export electricity in June due to lack of applications from potential participants. Because of the failed auction attempt, the 18th May auction has been considered a non-starter by the auction commission. On May 18th, Ukrenergo planned to auction electricity exports in June 15 lots in four interstate directions with the total capacity amounting to 1,885 MW. In particular, it was planned to auction access of the “Burshtyn island” section to the Slovakian, Hungarian and Romanian power systems with capacities up to 270 MW.

Millennium Capital believes that this lack of applications in June is a seasonal phenomenon rather than the result of the high cost of electricity proposed for export.
