OREANDA-NEWS. May 20, 2010. The Minister of Transport and road infrastructure Anatolie Salaru specified that most of funds - 334 million lei will be distributed for maintenance and current repair of the public roads. Another 134 million leis will be allocated for road repairs.

Up to 95 million leis will be spent for acquisition of a special road construction equipment and machinery to ensure quality repairs and road maintenance. About 45 million leis from the Road Fund will be focused on provision of road safety - road marking and installation of the traffic signs. Approximately 7.6 million leis will be used to repay debts for repair and road maintenance in 2009. As Anatolie Salaru noted, this year such roads of national importance as: Chisinau-Leuseni, Balti-Sarateni, Viisoara-Purcari, Perepelita-Pepeni, etc.

For the first time, all roads of the national and local importance with length of about 7 thousand km will be repaired. According to the Deputy Premier, the Minister of Economy Valeriu Lazar, the funds included into the Road Fund in 2010, are 2.5 times higher than those the last year and for 2011 it is planned to accumulate approximately 1 billion leis.

The funds are collected through the excise taxes on the petroleum products imports, fees and road taxes. According to statistics, over 90% of national and 95% of the local roads in Moldova require urgent repair.
