OREANDA-NEWS. May 25, 2010. Saratov Oil Refinery has reported on progress in clearing up the environmental contamination caused before the refinery became part of TNK-BP.  It was noted that since the start of 2006 13,700 cu m of bitumen-contaminated soil has been removed from the refinery grounds for processing and 4 oil storage pits have been liquidated, reported the press-centre of TNK-BP.

In 2010—13 the company plans to decontaminate the subsoil next to the bitumen production facility of shop No.2. In addition, the foundations and underground supply lines beneath the dismantled AVT unit will be removed, an underground oil trap will be liquidated, production waste will be recycled and other works carried out. TNK-BP plans to invest a total of 100 mln rubles in 2010—13 to remediate the Saratov Oil Refinery’s “historical legacy”.
