OREANDA-NEWS. May 25, 2010. Vnukovo International's passenger numbers over 2010's first four months have comprised 2 million 494 thousand, a 32,5 per cent improvement over the same period of 2009.

The international routes (the CIS nations and beyond) have garnered 607 passengers, an 11,3 percent improvement over the same period of 2009, with Hurghada, Sharm El Sheikh, Yerevan, Dushanbe, Tashkent, Berlin, Cologne, and Stuttgart topping the Airport's most popular destination list.

Thanks largely to the highly proactive stance, taken by both the Airport and its tenant air carriers, with regard to expanding their joint route networks and increasing flight frequencies on existing routes, the most appreciable passenger growth has been seen on domestic routes over the last four months. From January to April, 2010, Vnukovo's domestic passenger numbers have comprised 1 million 887 thousand, a 41,2 percent improvement against the same period in 2009, with the routes to Sochi, Krasnodar, Rostov-on-Don, Novosibirsk, Khabarovsk, Perm, Irkutsk, and Saint-Petersburg returning the highest growth rates.

As of end-April, 2010, Vnukovo International has handled a total of 11,427 thousand flights, improving its same-period-of-last-year indicator by 19,4 percent. In this year's April alone, 682 thousand air travelers chose to travel via Vnukovo Airport, a 24,6 percent same-period improvement over 2009.

Vnukovo International is one of Russia's leading air transport hubs, that handles yearly more 130 thousand flights, operated by over 200 air carriers, both domestic and foreign. The Airport's route network offering spans the majority of Russia's regions, as well as a considerable number of nations in the CIS, Western Europe, Asia, and Africa.
