OREANDA-NEWS. June 02, 2010. Deloitte CIS would like to present the third Russia Private Equity Confidence Survey, which was conducted between 22 March and 12 April 2010. The survey is based on 186 interviews with private equity professionals, representing 78 funds active in Russia, reported the press-centre of Deloitte.

The report highlights how significant new optimism within Russia’s private equity community is good news for growing Russian businesses.

Key findings
Expectations for economic improvement are at their highest since the launch of the survey in 2007, with 69% expecting the overall economic climate in Russia to improve over the next six months, compared to 55% in 2007.

After the freeze of 2008 and uncertainty of 2009, private equity is again open for business, with market activity anticipated to increase, as 71% of investors plan to buy and only 7% to sell.

Portfolio management is becoming increasingly important for private equity funds, with 41% planning to focus the majority of their time on this process, compared to 9% in 2007.

62% expect no drastic changes in average transaction size over the next six months, and 75% expect the same to apply to transaction entry multiples.

88% expect the fundraising environment to either improve or remain the same.

Andrei Joosten, Head of Corporate Finance Advisory at Deloitte CIS said: “The improved economic situation and more realistic expectations from sellers in terms of valuations is driving private equity to become more active, and the level of M&A activity in the first quarter of 2010 confirms this.”

Alexander Bragin, Transaction Services Partner, added: “Private equity can play a very important role in re-energizing investments in the Russian economy, so it’s great to see such optimism.”
