OREANDA-NEWS. June 03, 2010. Cooperation between Belarus and Azerbaijan looks very promising in the energy industry, agriculture, building industry, tourism and high-tech. The relevant statement was made at the Baku meeting of President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko and Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev on 3 June.

Opening the meeting, Ilham Aliyev said that the negotiations are supposed to outline new avenues to develop cooperation between Belarus and Azerbaijan. “I am convinced that the results will be good,” said the head of state. He stressed that Azerbaijan puts a lot of emphasis on the present visit of the Belarus president and said he hopes that the visit will advance the relations between the two countries. “Our relations are developing very rapidly, very positively. We successfully work on many joint projects. Everything we have agreed on is fulfilled in a timely and quality manner. I think that your visit will give a boost to the development of the bilateral relations,” Ilham Aliyev told Alexander Lukashenko.

Speaking about one-on-one negotiations with the Belarusian head of state, Ilham Aliyev remarked that the presidents had talked a lot about items on the bilateral agenda, regional matters and international affairs. He also said that after the negotiations many documents are supposed to be signed. He said the existing legal base of relations between the two countries is rather vast.

The Belarus president thanked Ilham Aliyev for warm and friendly welcome. “The many years of good traditions of tight cooperation and mutual aid between our nations live on and their scale grows larger in the present complicated conditions,” said the Belarusian head of state. He remarked that the two countries pursue a policy aimed at making their statehood stronger.

Alexander Lukashenko visited Azerbaijan in 2007. The Belarus president pointed out substantial changes in the capital city, large-scale ongoing construction projects and the reconstruction of old buildings. “If there is a president, who thinks about people and loves his nation, prospects of such a country are colossal,” believes the Belarusian head of state. He remarked that Belarus follows the same way, modernizing old things and avoiding destroying the old things without necessity
Alexander Lukashenko said the development of the bilateral dialogue is productive and, in his opinion, has produced results. Over the last five years the bilateral trade has increased by over 300% to reach USD 125 million in 2009. Alexander Lukashenko believes that the two countries have great prospects. Belarus and Azerbaijan have several years of projects worth a total of USD 1 billion to implement. The Belarus president believes it is now time to get down to implementing them.
