As is known, development of abundant hydrocarbon resources of the Caspian Sea rightfully put on the list of the world’s largest oil and gas reserves is a strategic aspect of the programme for development of the fuel and energy sector of Turkmenistan. ‘Black gold’ extraction in the Turkmen offshore and coastal zone is expected to substantially increase in the next decades.

Today, the world leading companies operate in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea in accordance with the production sharing agreement. These include Dragon Oil (UAE) that has been developing the fields on the Cheleken contractual territory since 1999.
