OREANDA-NEWS. June 08, 2010. COMSTAR – United TeleSystems (JSC COMSTAR-UTS, LSE: CMST), the leading supplier of integrated telecommunication solutions in Russia and the CIS, announces that it has enhanced capacity of its Internet network, Moscow-Saint Petersburg route, from 80 Gbps to 100 Gbps.

As a part of the project for capacity enhancement, COMSTAR-UTS has equipped nodes of the Internet network in Saint Petersburg with the new equipment – CRS-1 routers by Cisco. Besides, additional equipment has been installed in communication centers in Moscow.

 “Our users’ traffic is constantly growing: today, networks of the COMSTAR-UTS Group of companies let go through 120 Gbps of traffic from the Internet to their clients, while total minutely traffic consumed by all COMSTAR-UTS users all over Russia amounts to some 1 terabyte. In order to provide our subscribers with high-quality Internet access, we are continuously enhancing capacity of our channels, – said Viktor Belov, Director for Development of Service Platforms and Networks of JSC COMSTAR-UTS. – We are also engaged in a number of projects as a part of our integration with MTS related to transfer of the traffic of COMSTAR-UTS Internet users to traffic networks of our shareholder, which will enable maximum utilization of technical resources of both carriers.”

Currently the COMSTAR international network is connected to the global network in multiple major nodes in London, Stockholm, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Paris, Los Angeles and New York.
