OREANDA-NEWS. June 10, 2010. OJSC “Surgutneftegas” reviewed the results of the medium-term environment protection measures program “ECOLOGY – 2007-2009”. Initial planned amount for the investment was RUB 32.2 bn, but every year the program amount was accured: in 2007 up to RUB 41.6 bn, in 2008 – RUB 53.4 bn, the final financing amounted to RUB 58.4 bn.

The significant financing increase was caused by a high-rate development of new oilfields and construction of environmental facilities in Eastern Siberia.

For the period from 2007 to 2009 the Company built and commissioned 84 environmental facilities, including 44 air protection facilities and 30 water protection facilities, 2 solid domestic and industrial waste landfills, 5 sludge reservoirs and 3 sludge decontamination centers.

As a result of program implementation the Company achieved the following factors of negative impact decease:

- 31% reduction of gross emission released into atmosphere;

- 25% reduction of specific exhaust emission into atmosphere;

- 337% increase of screened contaminant amount;

- maintenance of constantly high associated petroleum gas utilization level (from 94.26% in 2007 and up to 96.89% in 2009);

- reduction of associated petroleum gas flaring amount by 49% compared to 2007 and flare emissions by 46%;

- 10.8% reduction of fresh water intake from surface-water bodies;

- 28.5% increase of waste products use as construction material and also secondary products manufacturing;

- 37.9% reduction of drilling waste disposal by means of utilization;

- 57.3% increase of solid oil-contaminated waste neutralization;

- 6.1% reduction of overall waste disposal amount, in spite of waste production increase by 17.9% due to activity expansion into new territories;

- 53% increase of length of pipeline protected by corrosion prevention chemical;

- 74.6% reduction of ecological consequence accidents on pipelines.

Prevented loss from environmental protection measures implemented by OJSC “Surgutneftegas” from 2007 to 2009 amounted to RUB 8,625 mn.
