OREANDA-NEWS. June 10, 2010. “Generation of the Urals” being a Division of “IES” is getting ready for technical re-equipment of boiler No.8 at Kirovskaya HPP-4 which will be based on low-temperature swirling technology. This is already the second large-scale investment project aimed to increase power supply efficiency for boiler equipment at HPP-4 and in IES holding on the whole.

In 2009 similar technology was first introduced on boiler No.9 at Kirovskaya HPP-4 and as of today has no analogies both in our country and abroad. Thanks to the introduction of low-temperature swirling technology (LST) there appeared a chance to use all kinds of fuel (gas, coal, peat and fuel oil).

LST technology was developed by the Russian scientists in Leningrad Polytechnical University and is known as one of the most effective technologies at burning solid organic fuel. Unlike usual technologies used in power supply its essence is that in the boiler there is whirlwing created which provides for the more intensive burning. The fuel burns completely, to the smallest particulates. As a result its expense per unit of power load becomes less. LST-technology is relatively cheap. The existing today alternative with the technology based on the boiling layer, is 3-4 times more expensive but its result does not exceed LST-technology.

“Reconstruction of the boiler at HPP-4 with the use of modern technologies allows not only to increase the efficient performance of the equipment but also, which is very important, to increase reliability of the power supply for the Kirov consumers. If last year there were a lot of questions which arose at all stages of work and required unique technical solutions, as of today such  solutions have been found and Boiler No.8 should come out more perfect”, noted Yuriy Chirkov the Chief Engineer of the “Kirovsky” Branch.

Kirovskaya HPP-4 is one of the largest heat power plants of the region. Heat produced by the plant warms up more than 5 millions square meters of residential, public and production areas of Kirov city. Reconstruction and re-equipment of the boiler of the plant also have a great economic meaning for Kirov region. Regional government jointly with IES has worked out an investment programme of peat mining in the region. Thus, the Company   “Vyatkatorf” (also being a member of JSC “IES”) is ready for increase of mining of the fuel. At the same time it is planned that the plants of “Generation of the Urals” Division will consume more peat. Introduction of LST-technology provides for the use of this natural resource with maximal efficiency.
