OREANDA-NEWS. June 17, 2010. The construction works of a new oil refinery by “Petkim” in Aliaga region of Izmir (Turkey) are successfully under way. The letter of regulator organization of the energy market in Turkey to “Petkim” states that the license to construct the refinery is possible provided that project materials, feasibility study and geological study on seismic resistance are sent to the organization within 90 days.

“SOCAR-Turcas” Executive Manager and member of Petkim Board of Directors Kenan Yavuz expressed his assurance on successful construction of the oil refinery. According to him, the refinery foundation with capacity of 10 mln tons a year will be laid soon. He added that the event will ensure jobs to about 7000-10,000 people, and 1000 people after it’s is put into operation. In turn, this contributes to the unemployment problem in “Petkim” peninsula.
