OREANDA-NEWS. June 23, 2010. The good news has come this week – grain growers of Turkmenistan have harvested over 1.1 million tons of winter wheat that vividly proves that Turkmen grain growers will fulfill the obligations to harvest 1.6 million tons this year.

As is known, grain growers of Serhetabat Etrap were the first in Mary Velayat and the country to report on the fulfillment of the contractual obligations ahead of schedule. Grain growers in Tahtabazar, Koytendag, Seydi, Serahs and other etraps in the southern region of Turkmenistan followed the lead. The 2010 harvest campaign is in full swing in the main wheat growing regions spread on the banks of the Karakum and the Amu Darya Rivers and in the Murghab oasis. Grain growers of Dashoguz Velayat who started the harvest campaign later due to the local soil and climatic conditions keep in step. Agricultural workers of Balkan Velayat where crop production strengthens its position in the structure of the agricultural sector of the region with every passing year contribute to the 2010 harvest campaign.

On June 21, grain growers in five etraps of Lebap Velayat reported on the fulfillment of the contractual obligations.

Grain growers in Karabekaul Etrap delivered 25,000 tons of high-quality wheat harvested in the 12,120-hectare area to the receiving points. Seidi, Bereket and Lebap farmers associations achieved the best results. Grain growers in Karabekaul Etrap are planning to harvest 1,200 tons more.

Grain growers of Farab Etrap harvested 21,000 tons in the 9,337-hectare area. Vatan, Dostluk and Shatlyk farmers associations achieved the best results. Grain growers of Farab are planning to harvest 500 tons more.

Grain growers of Beyik Turkmenbashi Etrap harvested over 12,300 tons in the 9,856-hectare area. Turkmenistan, Magtymguly, Pagtachi and S. A. Niyazov farmers associations achieved the best results. Grain growers of Beyik Turkmenbashi Etrap are planning to harvest 500 tons more.

Grain growers of Sayat Etrap harvested 26,000 tons in the 13,750-hectare area. They are planning to harvest 150 tons more.

Grain growers of Serdarabat Etrap harvested over 60,000 tons in the 22,487-hectare area. Grain growers return the labour victories for the unceasing concern of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for development of the agricultural sector and plan to reap rich harvests without losses according to schedule. They are planning to harvest 2,500 tons more.

This year Turkmen grain growers are planning to harvest 1.6 million tons on the 860,000-hectare area. As is known, a majority of this area was sown with such wheat varieties as Yoloten-1, Sahrai, Batko, Juvan and Yubileynaya-100 that produce high yields under local soil and climate conditions.

During the government meetings President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized that this year’s harvest grown by diligent Turkmen grain growers should be reaped without losses. To fulfill this task over 1,800 Case and John Deere grain combines are engaged in the 2010 harvest campaign. Over 600 trucks deliver wheat to 150 receiving points that have the laboratories where the representatives of the Turkmenstandartlary State Service test the quality of grain round-the-clock.

The factors for raising labour productivity include material incentives offered to agricultural workers on a regular basis, the high purchasing price for grain, targeted subsidies to cover the major part of farmers’ expanses for agricultural services. An increase in the wellbeing of rural people achieved through implementing the large-scale programme on the improvement of the social and living conditions in rural areas makes the profession of grain grower prestigious and asked-for. Today, well-experienced grain growers in the country are entrusted to grow wheat. Also, the demands are set to the quality of products and compliance with standards that is a major factor of market economy.

The major goal of the large-scale agricultural reform launched on the initiative of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov is to use efficiently and effectively the potential of the generous and thankful for care Turkmen land and place it at the service of the progress of the sector and food security. Due to the well thought-out and effective reforms agricultural output has been brought to a qualitatively new level in the epoch of new Revival and became a landmark in the history of Turkmen agro-industry sector.

The necessary measures are taken to expand the network of grain elevators in the country, modernize the agricultural fleet and purchase state-of-the-art equipment that effectively operates under local soil and climatic conditions. The critical decisions adopted at the Elders’ Council meeting in Dashoguz to improve seed production activities, develop agriscience and train highly-qualified agricultural specialists substantially contributed to reforming the agro-industry sector.

The 2010 harvest campaign continues, and thousands of tons of grain are delivered to the receiving points every day. Grain growers assure that they will reap rich harvest without losses in the shortest period of time. A rich harvest of wheat, a valuable crop that enables to ensure abundance of agricultural products on domestic market is an important step to implement the large-scale reforms launched in the agro-industry sector on the initiative of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
