OREANDA-NEWS. June 28, 2010. Haulage companies and individual carriers of cargo in Azerbaijan for Jan-May 2010 rendered services for AZN 1.3 bn that is by 3.2% more versus the 2009 same term indicator.

The Azerbaijan State Statistics Committee (ASSC) informs that for the reported term it was carried 76.4 million tons of cargo that exceeds by 3% the figure for the relevant period of 2009.

In 2009 cargo carriages totaled 189.8 million tons that is by 7.8% more versus the 2008 indicators.

Over the reported term the largest part of cargo transportation was carried out by road 49.1%, via pipelines 33.3%, by rail 11.6% and by sea 6%.

The share of cargo carriages by private sector (rise by 3.5%) totaled 72.5%.

For Jan-May 2010 it was carried 537.3 million passengers that is by 3.4% more against 2009 same period.  Last year’s figure was 1.3 bn people (+6.9% against 2008).

For the reported period it was carried 8.9 million tons of cargo by rail (+6.5%) versus 20.3 million in 2009. Cargo turnover is now 3.4 bn ton-km (+9.2%).

Maritime transport shipped 4.6 million tons of cargo (-10.4%) against 13.2 million tons (+10.1%) in 2009. At that, 66.1% (versus 75%) of cargo fell on the share of oil and 33.9% (25%) on dry cargo.

Transportation by road over Jan-May 2010 reached 37.5 million tons of cargo (+6.7%) and 455.9 million passengers (+7.4%) versus 94.2 million tons of cargo and 1.1 bn of passengers for 2009.

338,100 passengers were transported by air for Jan-May 2010 against 941,200 ones in 2009. At that, 78.1% of passengers were carried by planes of state airlines and 21.9% by planes of private ones.

Domestic oil pipelines carried 19.9 million tons over the reported period versus 50.5 million tons in 2009. Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipe transported 15.1 million tons versus 38.2 million.

It was pumped 7.8 b cu m of gas via domestic gas main pipelines for Jan-May 2010 against 11.6 bn in 2009. Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipeline exported 2.2 bn cu m of gas versus 5.2 bn cu m in 2009.
