OREANDA-NEWS. June 30, 2010. In the first five months of the year, production in the Karelian forest segment increased by 30% compared to the previous year, as the regional forest minister Vladimir Yuryev reported to Karelian governor Sergei Katanandov.

The minister noted considerable growth in foreign demand. ‘The stocks are almost empty, sawn timber sells at Eur 180 per cubic meter, among the clients are Egyptian and Japanese companies’.

Generally speaking, the industry is restoring from the crisis, says the minister. Growth is also registered in the paper industry and harvesting.
