OREANDA-NEWS. July 14, 2010. Belarus’ foreign commodity trade deficit amounted to USD 2.722 billion in January-May 2010, compared to a USD 3.208 billion deficit in January-May 2009, according to the National Statistics Committee.

Exports rose 27% in January-May 2010 year-on-year to USD 9.224 billion, and imports increased 14.1% to USD 11.947 billion.

Exports from Belarus included USD 4 865 billion worth of supplies to CIS states, up 52.7% on the year, including exports to Russia, which stood at USD 3.809 million, up 52.2% and to Kazakhstan at USD 175.5 million, up 70.3%.

Exports to non-CIS countries amounted to USD 4.359 billion as of June 1, 2010, up 6.9% on the year.

Belarusian imports from CIS countries rose 10% to USD 7.31 billion, including imports from Russia at USD 6.578 billion, up 7.9% on the year, and from Kazakhstan at USD 22.7 million, up 22.7%.

Imports from non-CIS countries went up 21.2% on the year to USD 4.637 billion.

The deficit of commodity trade with CIS countries came to USD 2.445 million, down 29.4% on the year in the period. The deficit of commodity trade with Russia fell 22.6% year-on-year in January-May 2010 to USD 2.805 million. In trade with Kazakhstan, Belarus showed a USD 139.8 million surplus, up 90%.

The deficit of foreign trade with countries outside the CIS reached USD 277.3 million in January-May 2010, compared to a surplus of USD 253.5 million surplus in January-May 2009.

The CIS accounted for 57.5% of Belarus’ trade turnover in January-ay 2010, Russia accounted for 48.2%, while non-CIS foreign states are responsible for 42.5%.
