OREANDA-NEWS. July 26, 2010. A working meeting of representatives of nonprofit organizations – the Association of Russian Automakers (OAR) and the Association of European Businesses (AEB) – took place in Moscow where they discussed the text of the Memorandum of Cooperation and the further lines of cooperation of the Russian and foreign automobile manufacturers. The delegation was headed by Sergey Kogoghin, Chairman of the OAR’s Board, Director General of OJSC KAMAZ on the Russian part, and by Dr. Frank Schauff, CEO of the AEB in the RF on the AEB’s part.

Preparation for this meeting started from Dr. Frank Schauff’s and Sergey Kogoghin’s private conversation at the International Forum “Engineering Technologies 2010” held from June 30, 2010 to July 4, 2010.

Mutually considering it necessary to broaden the EU and RF automakers’ cooperation in the sphere of mechanical engineering, the parties determined the organizations’ main areas of cooperation. They include organization and holding of vehicle shows, joint events to improve the quality of automobile fuel in the Russian market.

Under the draft, the parties are to exchange data of statistics, vehicle production and sales in the RF and the EU. The parties expressed their interest in preparation of suggestions to the Russian Government concerning import of vehicles to the country and a customs and tariff policy. Special attention was paid to the issues of development of technical regulations concerning the RF requirements to wheeled vehicles and vehicle components harmonized with the EU directives and introduction of ISO/TU 16949-2002 standards at enterprises of the domestic automobile industry.

The document doesn’t provide for the parties’ financial obligations, but it doesn’t belittle its importance: to date the Association of Russian Automakers includes a number of foreign automobile producers, such as General Motors, Renault, and Volvo. Therefore the Memorandum of Cooperation which the participants of the meeting plan to sign already in August at the Moscow international Motor Show (August 27, 2010 – September 5, 2010) is an important stage in the development of the home automobile industry and in the process of its integration into the international business relations system.
