OREANDA-NEWS. July 27, 2010. Full-scale introduction of the GLONASS system will make topographic maps unneeded in the nearest future. The opinion was revealed by Informational Satellite Systems company DDG-General Designer Nikolay Testoyedov.

He noted that through activating your GLONASS equipment you will have the opportunity to find the way in any place. So, you won’t need any maps.

The ministries which use GLONASS in their work shall be responsible for their ground segments, to maintain the necessary precision. As an example, detail correction stations which define the precision provided by the satellites shall be installed for the landing services. A navigation sensor with accurate space-to-ground linking maintains positioning precision of 1 mm, Testoyedov says.
