OREANDA-NEWS. August 04, 2010. The principal activity of Derzhspozhivstandart is to protect the rights of consumers. For that, the database for consumers, importers and manufacturers on the standards will be expanded. The main task - is the properly constructed system of technical regulations (standardization, metrology and certification). This was reported by the Chairman of the State Committee for Technical Regulation and Consumer Policy Oleg Povolotskyi during a briefing at the Government House.

"National mark of conformity is the guarantee of quality of domestic products and the index of manufacturer’s responsibility" - the President of Derzhspozhivstandart said.

Oleg Povoltskyi stressed that the work to attract the private sector and manufacturers to develop standards is going on. In his view, it is necessary that the representatives of government and business had fruitful mutual work.

In addition, the President of Derzhspozhivstandart said that the technical specifications are now under revision. At present, specifications for baby food, dairy products, potable water are updated.

"Today Derzhspozhivstandard intends to encourage the introduction of voluntary certification. The transition to a voluntary certification is well-known world and European practice" - Oleg Povoltskyi said.

The basis for the purpose of certification is to protect the consumer against faulty goods and unfair implementation of manufacturers’ obligations. Therefore, Derzhspozhivstandard permanently holds the limited scope audits.

Also, Oleg Povolotskii noted that since 2006, more than 3500 old Soviet state standards were revised or cancelled. At present, approximately 6400 standards have already been changed to meet modern standards and international norms.
