OREANDA-NEWS. August 06, 2010. As part of social partnership, TNK-BP once again sponsored Rubin Hockey Club in the city of Tyumen. The allocated funds will be used to purchase sports equipment, provide medical assistance to sportsmen, promote hockey among juniors and the general public, maintain the building of a boarding school, and modernize the premises, reported the press-centre of TNK-BP.

Oleg Chemezov, Director of TNK-BP Management Branch “TNK-BP Sibir”, Vice President, OJSC TNK-BP Management, said Rubin hockey club has demonstrated good results and has devoted fans who come to the grandstands to shout for the club. “Russian people invariably love hockey. We would like as many children as possible to take it up”, he said.

Rubin hockey club (previously called Gazovik) was founded in 1995. Since 2000, the club’s team of professional players has taken part in tournaments between professional clubs. At the moment, Rubin plays in the Vostok conference of the Premier Hockey League. Russia’s student team made up of Gazovik’s hockey players has twice won golden medals in Winter World Student Games and once — a silver medal. 

More than a thousand children regularly attend the Specialized Olympic Games Reserve School for Juniors under Rubin hockey club and its branches. Thirteen teams play in Russia’s tournament for junior teams. Rubin’s players represent Russia’s hockey internationally as they play for junior and youth national teams.
