OREANDA-NEWS. August 10, 2010. The Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Viktor Slauta had a working visit to Kherson region, where under his chairmanship was held the All-Ukrainian Meeting on vegetable production and processing.

This event takes place first time since Ukraine's independence and was organized by initiative of the head of the agricultural block of the Government.

Victor Slauta is convinced that the State should pay considerable attention to the development of vegetable production. Ukraine has all facilities and sufficient capacity to produce quality fruits and ensure the internal and external markets.

Before the All-Ukrainian plenary meeting its participants learned about modern technologies of growing tomatoes, onions, beets and carrots using drip irrigation in the farms "Trud" and "Favorit III".

During the visit to farm "Integrated agrosystems" a presentation was organized for the event participants on industrial technology of growing tomatoes at combine harvesting. They toured the greenhouse complex of tomato seedlings growing and agricultural machinery for cultivation and processing tomatoes.

During the All-Ukrainian meeting were discussed such important topics as: status and challenges of development of vegetable production, achievements and issues of domestic vegetable seed crops, scientific support for domestic Vegetable and Melon-growing industries; experience of growing tomatoes on Beauharnais lands, industrial tomato growing and canning industry issues; creation of wholesale agricultural markets, especially the formation of regional markets of commercial vegetable production.

As the results of the meeting the Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine has given a number of orders. In particular, Victor Slauta ordered the Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine together with the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine to draft a program of development of vegetable production in Ukraine till 2020.
