OREANDA-NEWS. August 12, 2010. In Turkmenistan cattle-breeding farms started the autumn sheep shearing campaign. This season over 18.8 million heads of sheep will be sheared throughout the country and 2.5 million of heads of sheep at the farms affiliated with the Turkmenmallary Association. A majority of sheep is of karakul breed.

The conditions conducive to productive labour of shearers have been created. Most experienced shearer can shear over a hundred sheep in a shift. Autumn karakul wool is, for the most part, exported, and the other part of karakul wool is used for making felt articles including felt mats.

In these days cattle breeders are preparing for the winter time. Agricultural workers in the farms affiliated with the Turkmenmallary Association are engaged in laying-in of fodder and construction of sheep sheds and other facilities. To date, over a half of the amount of fodder that is to be stored this year that is 300,817 tons has been laid in. agricultural machines including 160 mowing machines and balers procured recently for local farmers are engaged in these activities.

To date, 100 of 233 new sheep sheds with the three-layered walls made from natural, environmentally friendly materials have been built, and construction of 39 sheep sheds are under completion. 140 sheep sheds are under reconstruction.

Specialists of the Turkmenorimeydansuvlandyrysh Production Association of the Turkmenmallary Association carry out the necessary activities to supply water to pastures. To date, over 10 wells have been constructed and over 50 watering facilities have been reconstructed.
