OREANDA-NEWS. August 16, 2010. The national telecommunications operator Beltelecom organized the first 10 Gbps transit flow Russia-Belarus-Kaliningrad over DWDM network. An agreement with Russian operator Synterra on the traffic transfer via Belarus has been signed, reported the press-centre of Beltelecom.

"Beltelecom gives special attention to upgrade of the cross-border fiber-optic links, backbone network and data transmission network by means of new generation equipment with higher capacity for the purpose of further mutually beneficial development of international relations with telecommunications operators. This year we also are planning to organize transit flows for Russian operators Rostelecom and TransTelecom and as a result to employ transit capacity of Beltelecom and of Belarus as a whole", - says Konstantin Tikar, Director General of Beltelecom.

Transit via the territory of Belarus represents the shortest transit route of Russian Internet traffic for customers of Kaliningrad region. In future Beltelecom plans to organize transit flows with higher capacity to Europe.
